MS and Firefox agree on RSS feeds Icon

A classic David Vs Goliath End. Its finally out. Its the Tiny Weeny Orange Icon which did the trick.

Microsoft has decided to follow Firefox's standard icon for displaying the alerts in its IE7 and other products that supports RSS feed.

For those of you who have been following the Microsoft RSS Team Blog, this was on the cards.

Here is the story.

Moral: Size does not Matter

First Day at Micro$oft

Yes. Yesterday was my first day at Microsoft India Decelopment Center, Hyderabad.

In short it made me feel that i was very important. The MS folks and my team members were waiting for my delayed arrival by train. There were a lot of presentations. Looks like this might go on for couple of weeks. Presentations were very professional and sophisticated. Couple of great talks. I guess it might be dangerous as it the expectations may be equally high.

Today happens to be no different. Got our Alias and Machine(s). Might also get the ID cards...

Few Romantic Ideas

Here are a few extracts from 101 Romantic Ideas by Michael webb

  • If your partner is going away for a few days, tell her that you are worried about her so you have organized a bodyguard to look after her. Then give her a small teddy bear.
  • Have flowers delivered to your partner's workplace. She will not only enjoy the flowers but will also receive comments and attention from her office mates which will add to her enjoyment.
  • For this idea you will need a portable CD player. If you and your partner have a favorite song, get a copy of it on CD and take it with you when you go away for a romantic weekend. When you are in a romantic spot, ask your partner if she would like to dance. Place one earpiece in her ear and one in your own and enjoy your private dance floor. This technique is particularly effective if the romantic spot you have chosen is somewhere where people would not normally dance, for example, the top of the Empire State building at sunset or on top of a mountain during a camping trip.
  • If your partner has a pet that she adores, at Christmas, in addition to buying a gift for your partner, buy a small present for her pet.
  • Contact your partner's family and ask if there was anything she always wanted when she was a little girl. For example if she always wanted a porcelain doll, buy one for her birthday. She will not only appreciate the gift but also the fact that you were thoughtful enough to find out what she always wanted.
  • If your partner is going on a trip, pack a small present into the corner of her suitcase that she will find when she is away.
  • Create a love montage by collecting some photographs of you and your partner, some ticket stubs of places you have visited and any other small odds and ends that have special meaning to you both. Take these items and get them professionally framed in a three dimensional montage. Alternatively, buy a frame and create a simple montage yourself.
  • Buy a book that you and your partner are both interested in reading. Read one chapter each night in bed with each of you taking turns to read out loud. This can be a great alternative to television.
  • Next time you order a pizza, ask to have it cut into a heart shape before it is delivered to your home.
  • When your partner is sick at home, take a day off to look after her. Rent some videos, make her some soup, wrap her up in a blanket and just be with her.
  • Give your partner a magic gift box. Every month, place a new small gift in the box for her to discover.
  • Create a loving nickname for your partner. This could be the name she was called by her family when she was a little girl or something that is special just for the two of you.
  • If you are artistically inclined, do a life drawing course, practice until you are confident and then ask your partner to pose for you.

In case you have tried out these or even better, got some tips then, you have an obligation to pass on your wisdom to your fellow brethern

WHAT WOMEN WANT

Disclaimer : OK. So this has nothing to do with what i have done / doing right now. This is
just a series of thoughts inspired by a whole lot of Movies, TV Sops and other's real life
expriences.

Before getting started, it would be better to set the thread rolling by adding quotes from
some-of-the-best-movies of all times.

Some nice words of wisdom from Movie Hitch

Basic Principles
  1. No women wakes up thinking.... "God I dont want to get swept off my feet today"
  2. 60% of all human communications is non-verbal body language. 30% is your tone...So that means, 90% of what you are saying ain't coming out of your mouth
  3. Fact is just like all of us, even a beautiful women dosent know what she wants until she sees it
  4. No matter what, No matter when, No matter who...Any man has a chance to sweep any women off her feet. Just need the right broom.
  5. You cannot use what you do not have. If you are shy, be shy. If you are out going, be outgoing.
  6. It is no longer your job to try and make her like you, it is your job not 2 mess it up
  7. So how does it happen, Great love, nobody knows..What i can tell you is, it happens on a blink of an eye
  8. Always remember: Life, is not the amount of breaths you take, its the moments that take your breath away.

OK people.. You heard what the Date Doctor had to say.. So lets start searchig for the broom(s)..

Getting my own blog site - 4

Last night i was busy trying to get community server (CS) hosted on my .NET 2.0 beta machine. I downloaded the binaries, as source will be given away only with the released version. I was able to build it but not without any error. It looks like it requires SQL 2000 backend. I went thru my collection of s/w and couldnt find it. So i decided to test it over in Yukon (SQL Server 2005) beta 2.

After that i did a little code view of CS 1.1 release. The files and code reminded me of EDRA (Enterprise Development Reference Architecture) which was given away by Micro$oft in gotdotnet.

Anyway...The big buzz for today is William Henry Gates III is coming to India on Dec 9. He will be visitng B'lore for the lauch of integrated computing platform - SQL Server 2005, Visual Studio 2005 and BizTalk Server 2006. The event has been titled as 'Bill Gates LIVE in Bangalore -- Ready 2005'. Very similar to his previous visit titled ''Bill Gates LIVE in Bangalore'.

Also... all those who end up reaching this part of the note.. plz wish for a speedy recovery for Amitabh Bachchan..

Getting my own blog site - 3

The news is I am on track. Last night i installed dasBlog. I Had a chance to browse through some of their test implimentations. Quite impressive. So here is what i have to say. DasBlog is your choice in case you just want to have a blog + rich and cool UI + have enough technical knowledge and patience to work your way thru minimal documentation and support.

So this means that i will be dropping out. Not becasue of any technical incompetency but becuase of other features like multiple blogs support and gallery. Dont think that dasBlog supports these. Otherwise the installation is breeze and should be done in a couple of hours.

So this leaves me with no choice but to opt for CommunityServer. Again had a good look at some of its implementations. The key features are Multiple blogs per installation and Multiple authors per blog. Apart from the host of other common features like Skinnig, Ratings, Email Subscription, RSS 2.0 support, Trackbacks et cetra..

Feel free to communicate in case you want any support / help.

BTW.. My first product i worked on has been picked up by Microsoft as a customer evidence. Please do take take some time off and read it.

Click here to be read it.

Statuary Warning : ABM (Anything But M$) guys please stay away. This links leads to Microsoft site. This evidence has lots of metrics and terminology which will knock the living daylights out of you..

Getting my own blog site - 2

Taking the thread forward.. i have some updates. I have zeroed on 2 free .NET blog software..

1. Community Server, formerly called as .Text

Another interesting one is Radio Userland. But i guess i would as of now settle with Commuity Server as it allows me to host multiple blogs from a single installation (see http://blogs.msdn.com for an example).

Das blog is fine but it stores entries in an XML format. The trade off is, its bit slow. And in case u try to access it from a 56K connection.. i might be pretty slow
Anyway, downloaded both of them and working on it.

In case u r a MS beta freak like me and want to enroll in their beta's, here are a couple of open invitations. I just stumbled upon. http://ideas.live.com/ I just signed up for most of them. These will add to my list of beta programmes in my resume.

In case u have any better FREE tool for blogging. Do let me know..
